Descartes has acquired Velocity Mail, an electronic transportation network that provides global air carriers with mail and parcel shipment scanning and tracking solutions.

US-based Velocity Mail helps global air carriers leverage mobile devices to accurately track shipments and deliveries in real-time. Velocity Mail automates the entire shipment process from route generation to accounting reconciliation, simplifying operational processes for the air carriers, ground handlers and postal authorities.

Descartes’ strategy is focused on growing and operating the most complete and interoperable global Logistics Technology Platform. Descartes’ Logistics Technology Platform uniquely combines the Global Logistics Network (GLN), a wide range of modular and interoperable logistics applications and the largest community of logistics-intensive companies in the world. The acquisition advances Descartes’ strategic objective to strengthen its global presence and leadership position by:

  • Expands Descartes’ network reach and concentration with air carriers beyond cargo into the ecommerce market with mail/parcel processes;
  • Extends Descartes’ application footprint for air carriers with additional mail/parcel scanning and tracking solutions;

  • Adds incremental mail/parcel transactions that will generate additional shipment content.

The GLN provides community members the flexibility to easily connect and collaborate with global trading partners.  The Velocity Mail acquisition expands the reach of the GLN and concentration with air carriers beyond cargo into the ecommerce market with mail/parcel processes.

Descartes’ product strategy is focused on expanding its logistics application functional footprint to provide its customers with the most comprehensive logistics management solutions in the industry.  The Velocity Mail acquisition extends Descartes’ application footprint with additional mail/parcel scanning and tracking solutions. By combining Velocity Mail’s solutions with the Descartes Global Air Messaging Gateway, the air carriers will now have one platform to manage the lifecycle of all shipments, both ecommerce focused mail and parcel shipments and larger freight shipments.
