Descartes is enhancing its security filing solution to support Japan’s Advanced Cargo Information (ACI) filing requirement for air cargo shipments arriving in Japan.

“As a leader in security filing solutions across the world, Descartes will extend its security filing solution to meet the broader needs of its customers,” said Jos Nuijten, Product Manager Air Security Filings at Descartes. “We are leveraging our experience providing import filing solutions for Japan to help our customers meet the new Japan ACI requirement.”

Japan ACI requires air carriers to disclose the contents of air cargo shipments inbound to Japan 3 hours in advance of their arrival into the country. Nippon Automated Cargo and Port Consolidation System (NACCS) is responsible for operating this program on behalf of the Japanese government and air carriers will be required to file starting in April 2019. NACCS is the same government organization that carried out the Japan Ocean Advance Filing Requirement (AFR) mandate for inbound ocean shipments that has been in place since 2014.

Descartes will enhance its security filing solution that already supports Japan AFR to meet the requirements for Japan ACI. Existing Descartes customers will be able to leverage their current services to quickly comply with the new regulation when it takes effect. For new customers, Descartes will bring its expertise in working with NACCS and Japan customs to help facilitate smooth onboarding and adherence to Japan ACI.

To help all carriers and parties interested in Japan ACI, Descartes will launch a series of web seminars starting in April. These seminars are intended to educate attendees on the status of the ACI mandate as well as other security filing mandates across the globe and discuss the Descartes security filing solutions that support them.
