ATLANTA, Georgia, September 26, 2024 -- Descartes Systems Group, the global leader in uniting logistics-intensive businesses in commerce, will showcase numerous technology innovations to its fleet management software suite at Descartes’ Innovation Forum event, which takes place in Chicago, Illinois from October 8-10, 2024. Innovations include integrating numerous systems, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) for improved safety compliance and higher quality route execution, and expanding route optimization capabilities and deployment options.

“Manufacturers, retailers, distributors and logistics service providers of all sizes want comprehensive solutions proven to enhance fleet and driver productivity, foster safety and elevate the end customer experience,” said James Wee, General Manager, Fleet Management at Descartes. “Our broad and comprehensive technology suite is specifically developed to help the industry meet this market need. Our recent advancements provide companies operating private or dedicated fleets with a unified platform to operate efficiently while maximizing the potential of their fleet management teams and assets.”

Descartes’ fleet management solution suite innovation and enhancements include:

  • Greater interoperability for more efficient and cohesive workflows that improve customer and driver satisfaction. Enhanced integrations between all Descartes routing applications and the customer engagement platform Descartes acquired last year provide greater transparency into delivery performance, map-based live tracking of delivery/service appointments for end customers, and modern mechanisms for gathering service satisfaction ratings and feedback. The new integration of driver safety training directly into driver workflows on Descartes mobile applications enhances overall safety, risk management and compliance while providing drivers with the ability to efficiently manage their workday from a single mobile device.
  • AI to enhance safety compliance and further refine route plans and how they are executed. Recently deployed AI-enabled, in-vehicle safety cameras improve driver safety and compliance by monitoring driving behavior and analyzing safety events to pinpoint and address areas of concern in ways that are automated, yet more tailored to individual driver needs. Descartes’ more advanced machine learning (ML) capabilities for route execution enable customers to continually and more intelligently improve the quality of their routes—even as vehicles are on the road—with real-time traffic information, delivery windows and weather conditions. This helps improve driver performance and customer service while giving dispatchers and supervisors greater visibility and control.
  • Route optimization benchmarking for better delivery performance. New capabilities offer customers data-driven insights into how well route optimization algorithms perform compared to human planners and to actual performance on the road. By analyzing variances, companies can identify inefficiencies and then refine route optimization settings, parameters and constraints. This helps lead to more effective route planning and more operational trust in automation which can result in cost savings and improved delivery performance.
  • Next-generation strategic route planning to create accuracy and responsiveness. New cloud-based strategic route planning and territory balancing solution options allow for real-time adjustments and better handling of new data and routes compared to traditional methods that tend to be seasonal modeling exercises based only on historical data. With the ability to adapt to changing conditions, companies can more readily improve the accuracy of route assignments and overall planning efficiency. The highly scalable approach extends coverage for strategic planning across a variety of industries, as well as dynamic inbound package assignments for high-density courier routes with hundreds of stops, offering couriers unique options to reduce costs and increase service.
